Who We Are
Rapidan River Master Gardeners are an eclectic group of volunteers who share a love of gardening—and a commitment to giving back.
Grounded in current scientific research, we design, maintain, and enhance public gardens while providing practical, science-based guidance on sustainable home gardening.
Trained by Virginia Cooperative Extension and Virginia Tech—and sharpened by plenty of real-world trial and error in our own gardens—we focus on what actually works. Our goal is simple: healthier landscapes, stronger local biodiversity, and more resilient, productive gardens across our community.
You’ll find us at farmers markets, libraries, community events, and public parks—maintaining gardens, teaching classes, and answering everyday gardening questions from neighbors like you. Stop by an event, attend a class, or send us a question.
We’re always happy to talk plants.

Virginia Cooperative Extension
Virginia Cooperative Extension helps lead the engagement mission of Virginia Tech and Virginia State University, the commonwealth’s land-grant universities. Building local relationships and collaborative partnerships, VCE helps people put scientific knowledge to work through learning experiences that improve economic, environmental, and social well-being.
VCE also is part of the National Institute for Food and Agriculture, an agency of the United States Department of Agriculture. Extension programs are delivered through a network of faculty at two universities, 107 county and city offices, 11 agricultural research and Extension centers, and six 4-H educational centers.
Virginia Cooperative Extension is the lead sponsoring agency and administrative home for the Extension Master Gardener program.
